Israel Maya

Israel Maya has been a cantor since 1989. He currently serves as Hazan at Temple Moses Sephardic Congregation of Florida located in Miami Beach. His interest in becoming a cantor (or hazan in Hebrew) began as he studied in Jerusalem.  He started taking Sehphardic cantorial classes in Hechal Shelomo under the direction of world renown cantor Yigal Ben Haim and Ezra Barnea. Simultaneously, he received voice training from opera singer/cantor Moshe Dirusinsky and cantorial advisement and training from Yitzhak Alaluf who taught him the Turkish Sephardic style of hazanut. Upon his return to the states, Israel continued voice lessons for several years from the School of Conservatory in North Miami Beach, FL. He has been a cantor in many synagogues, and has learned many different styles, but always considers Temple Moses his home and it’s congregants as his family.
