Nissim Elnecavé

Rabbi Nissim Elnecavé was born in Mexico City to a Sephardic family with roots from Istanbul and Salonica. 

In 2016 Rabbi Nissim Elnecavé became the Executive Director of the newly re-invigorated Sephardic Jewish Brotherhood of America. Among his activities, he has recruited numerous young people, started the Brotherhood’s weekly online newsletter La Boz Sefaradi which includes Djoha stories in English, Ladino, and audio recordings, and archived cherished liturgical songs of esteemed cantors and managed the launch of this site Zemirot.org. Rabbi Elnecavé was born in Mexico City to a family of Turkish Jews and grew up in the Ladino-speaking Sephardic community. He trained for the rabbinate in Jerusalem at the Shehebar Sephardic Center and Yeshivat Porat Yosef. He received Semiha from the Shehebar Sephardic Center and the Chief Rabbinate of Jerusalem. He has previously translated historic Ladino books for Yeshiva University. Rabbi Elnecavé is passionate about strengthening our Ladino Sephardic community and fostering pride in our rich heritage.
